Location
Atlantis is a desirable, small community of residents living within less than one and a half square miles of exquisite Palm Beach County, Florida. Atlantis is north of Boca Raton and Boynton Beach, near Lake Worth. The city is directly to the southeast of the Village of Wellington, and slightly to the southwest of West Palm Beach. Located between Florida’s Turnpike and I-95, the City of Atlantis provides easy access for residents to all of South Florida. The area is bordered by the Lake Worth Drainage Canal to the north, Lantana Road to the south, South Congress Avenue to the east, and Military Trail to the west. The area now known as Atlantis, began as a gated golf and country club in the late 1950’s, before the City of Atlantis incorporated the land, along with a small area outside of the residential boundaries, to make it into the community it is today. The current community boasts around 2,100 permanent residents, within about 828 acres of land. Nearly half of the land that makes up the City of Atlantis is residential. Around 10% of Atlantis is commercial property. The rest of the land is for recreation, or remains as open space within the city limits of Atlantis.
Communities
About 70% of the homes in Atlantis have full-time residents. A few hundred additional seasonal residents also round out the city of Atlantis during certain months of the year. Despite having a small population of full-time residents, you will discover a wide variety of Atlantis Florida homes for sale. More specifically, Atlantis is home to the Atlantis Golf Club and the Atlantis Country Club. Atlantis Golf Club features several levels of memberships. The golf club has three nine-hole courses to choose from, making it a prime location for golfers in Palm Beach County. Atlantis Country Club is open to the public, but also offers several levels of golf memberships for its own 18-hole, par 72-championship golf course. As well, the Atlantis Country Club offers a number of dining locations on-site, from those with light menus to locations with sit-down meals, banquets, and special events held throughout the year. Atlantis Country Club features a 24/7 guarded gate, with single-family homes, condominiums and villas within. The community also includes tennis courts and a playground for both younger families and retirees to enjoy.
Things to Do
The incredible Palm Beaches are less than 20 minutes away from the City of Atlantis. Residents and tourists alike can spend hours lounging upon the miles of white, sandy beaches. The area also boasts some of the best diving, fishing and boating in all of South Florida. There are also an additional 150 public and private golf courses within Palm Beach County to choose from, for residents to enjoy. The Intracoastal region is also a short distance from Atlantis. If you are in search of additional entertainment, the options are endless in the Palm Beach County area. The Kravis Center for the Performing Arts is located in neighboring West Palm Beach, Florida. The destination features live opera, ballet, theatre and musical entertainment throughout the year. Also not far from the City of Atlantis, is the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in nearby Fort Lauderdale. For exposure to additional arts and culture of the region, visit the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach. The Flagler Museum in Palm Beach is a wonderful representation of history of the Palm Beach County area.
Shopping
There are several options when it comes to shopping close to the City of Atlantis, in the Palm Beach County area. The Mall at Wellington Green is located in the nearby Village of Wellington. The venue features nationally known anchor stores, plus more than 180 specialty shops and a number of restaurants to choose from. Other shopping locations include Boynton Beach Mall, located in nearby Boynton Beach. Expect to find around 135 shops and restaurants there. CityPlace in downtown West Palm Beach offers around 80 national retailers, specialty shops, restaurants and entertainment options. For more upscale boutiques and fine dining establishments, Worth Avenue in nearby Palm Beach, provides a variety of choices that you will not find elsewhere. There is also the famed Clematis Street in West Palm Beach. The historic area is home to several boutiques, trendy restaurants and art galleries. The district comes alive at night with live entertainment. For some of the best shopping when it comes to antiques, visit Antique Row in neighboring West Palm Beach. The area is well known as the go-to place for antiques along the east coast.
Local Economy
As far as the local economy of Atlantis, the area is home to the JFK Medical Center. Along with several nearby medical and doctor’s offices, the industry makes up the primary commercial aspect of the City of Atlantis.
